On Wednesday, September 25th, AGC of America welcomed AGC chapter government relations staff from across the country to AGC’s annual Government Relations Summit. The summit provides an opportunity for AGC chapters to discuss the top government relations issues they are facing back home. Over twenty chapters were represented at the summit, which was held at AGC of America’s headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.

This week, the House of Representatives and Senate easily passed a short-term spending bill averting a potential government shutdown just weeks before the November elections. The bipartisan agreement on a short-term fix will fund the government and create a new deadline of December 20, 2024. The agreement ultimately does not include a provision demanded by former President Trump, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote in a federal election.

AGC is excited to announce that Speaker Mike Johnson has agreed to speak to AGC Leadership later this month. Every year AGC holds the National Chapter Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. The event is designed for Chapter Presidents, Vice Presidents and Chapter Executives, to provide AGC chapter leaders a forum to network, discuss challenges and share real solutions with other chapter officers.

Next week the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate are set to return from their August recess and will immediately begin debate on funding the federal government before current funding expires at the end of September. As AGC has previously reported, this is one of the last must pass items on the agenda ahead of the November elections.

Help Us Generate a Comprehensive Outlook for 2024 by Taking the Survey Each year around this time, AGC asks you – our members – to predict what next year will be like for your business. AGC has partnered with Sage to prepare questions that focus on expectations for market performance, hiring, labor market conditions, etc. Please take a moment to complete the survey here. AGC of America will use the survey results to help make the case with elected and appointed officials in support of key member priorities. The more people who complete the survey by Thursday, December 7, the more effective the results will be in supporting our work on your behalf.
