Grant applications to reduce diesel emissions due Dec. 1st

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) provides grant funding opportunities for which AGC chapters and members could team up with local partners to compete annually for clean diesel funding. AGC routinely advocates for Diesel Emissions Reductions Act grants and provides input to the agencies to make them more accessible for the construction industry. Other grant opportunities where funding is distributed to state and local governments signal potential opportunities to engage at the local level in the areas of Brownfields training, climate, and waste management and recycling.

  • Diesel Emissions Reductions Act (DERA) Grants – Achieve reductions in diesel emissions – Applications are due Dec. 1, 2023, for the 2022-2023 Notice of Funding Opportunity. EPA’s website includes information on eligibility, application process, and tools. Go to: https://www.epa.gov/dera/national
  • Brownfields Job Training Grants – Training in hazardous and solid waste management, including environmental cleanup – Applications are usually due in the summer – Find information here.
  • New Climate Pollution Reduction Grants Competitions – In September, EPA announced new competitions for states, municipalities, Tribes, and territories for grants to fund measures in their climate action plans. Grants applications are due in April 2024. Although contractors cannot directly compete, this program may provide opportunities to engage with state or local governments on this topic.  Find more information on EPA's website here.
  • New Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling Grant Program – In September, EPA announced grant winners to build local infrastructure for recycling, including for construction and demolition debris. Find out if your state or county was awarded grant money. There may be opportunities to partner or engage. For example, states will be conducting waste characterization studies, developing strategies for disaster debris management or sustainable materials management, etc. Find information here and here.
