Sneak Peek: What's on the Schedule for AGC's 2017 Construction Environmental Conference

Join us on September 13-14, in Crystal City, Virginia!

Registration is open for the Associated General Contractors of America’s annual Construction Environmental Conference (CEC).  Will you be joining us?  The 2017 CEC is about being prepared for the (un)known and having a plan in place to address environmental responsibilities during all phases of a project.  Below is a sneak peek of this year’s management and educational topics.

AGC will hold the 2017 CEC on September 13-14, at The Double Tree in Crystal City, VA, located directly across the river from Washington, DC.  Go to http://meetings.agc.org/cec/ to register and make your travel arrangements today!

Explore management solutions, tools and technology, and best practices at AGC’s 2017 CEC.  What’s new this year?  The 2017 CEC will bring back the popular “Compliance Hour” where federal agencies are invited to attend and share resources.  We also have a group exercise in the works!  (The complete schedule and session descriptions to be posted soon.)

  • Planning for the (un)known: Follow an inspiring case study of a project that could have gone bad.  Against this backdrop, you’ll gain insight into the permitting process for surface water discharge, groundwater treatment, air quality compliance, project team coordination, timing and incremental cost and recovery.
  • Green infrastructure and the evolving standard of care: What are the expectations associated with green infrastructure? What are your risks?
  • Getting involved with your local municipal permitting process: Why should a contractor care? What are some of the lessons learned?
  • Laying the foundation for soil stabilization and long-term soil health: Learn from a mix of research with real world examples.
  • Optimizing results from your waste management plan: Case studies, contractor-led study results, money-saving ideas for vertical and horizontal projects, working with waste related credits in LEED, etc.
  • Accounting for environmental concerns during the estimating phase: What’s involved? How can you ensure environmental costs are included in the project budget?
  • Avoiding the environmental liability pitfalls contractors can face in the field: Can you guess where the biggest problems lie? Hear examples from a variety of construction projects.
  • Applying project management strategies to reduce your company’s risk when taking on closures and acquisitions: As we re-invest in infrastructure and re-vitalize neighborhoods, help your company effectively and safely manage the necessary steps and assessments.
  • Putting “Management” back into BMPs: Explore and share management practices that work and simple steps to develop jobsite plans that cover stormwater, oil spills, emergency response, endangered species, resilience, sustainability….(And more, time permitting!)

Do you know an owner, supplier, or design professional who is interested in better understanding how environmental issues are handled on a construction project?  Encourage them to attend AGC’s 2017 CEC by sharing this article.

Learn from Your Peers

Co-located with the conference, on September 12, 2017, AGC will host a series of roundtable discussions exclusively for in-house environmental managers at construction firms.   The AGC In-House Environmental Managers Meeting is a day of peer-to-peer learning and information sharing.  This meeting is highly interactive.  You set the agenda; to ensure active discussion, space is limited.  Register as an “add-on” item through the conference registration tool.

For information about the conference or in-house managers meeting, please visit http://meetings.agc.org/cec/ or contact Melinda Tomaino at tomainom@agc.org or (703) 837-5415.
