Learn Best Practices for Employee Preparedness in Active Shooter Situations at AGC’s Construction HR & Training Professionals Conference

From Columbine High School to the rock concert in Paris, active shooter scenarios have become all too common.  And while we remember most the students and concert attendees who tragically lost their lives, we must also remember that before these establishments were schools or concert venues, they were first workplaces -- workplaces that employed teachers, janitors, and office staff.  And before that, they were workplaces that employed construction workers.  During AGC’s 2016 Construction HR and Training Professionals Conference, retired police commissioner Bo Mitchell, will share best practices for planning and training employees for active shooter and other workplace violence situations.

Bo Mitchell served as Police Commissioner of Wilton, CT, for 16 years. He retired in February 2001 to start 911 Consulting with a mission to protect people at their workplaces during emergencies.  The mission grew out of three realizations.  First, police reports about incidents and emergencies at workplaces nearly always included a stunned boss saying, “I never thought this could happen to us.”  Second, even though police response time to 911 calls was prompt, it could never be immediate. And third, his wife had recently experienced a narrow escape at a new job. So, what Bo had previously identified as a business opportunity suddenly turned into a personal passion. Since 2001, 911 Consulting has been conducting risk assessments, creating emergency plans, training employees, and leading exercises for regional, national, and international clients across dozens of industries.

This year’s Construction HR & Training Professionals Conference will be held in Chicago, IL, October 5-7 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago hotel and will offer unique opportunities for HR, training, and workforce development professionals in the construction industry.   A Federal Construction HR Workshop will be held October 5 in conjunction with the Conference.
