Tennessee Builds

Welcome to the Tennessee construction industry, a place of good pay and great opportunities staffed by tens of thousands of hard working craftspeople who take great pride in what they build and who look out for the safety of their co-workers.

AN INDUSTRY WHERE THE AMERICAN DREAM LIVES ON

Over 125,000 men and women work in construction throughout Tennessee. Construction workers in the state earn 14 percent more than the average worker in the state, and bring home an average salary of over $54,000 a year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. And since most construction jobs do not require college degrees, many of those workers do not have college debts to worry about.

Construction is an industry of opportunity, where every worker can advance through skill, determination and commitment. Many construction firm owners started their careers as skilled craftspeople.

And the Tennessee construction industry provides good, high-paying jobs to immigrants from all over the world. That is why the members of the Associated General Contractors have long fought for comprehensive immigration reform to allow more skilled construction workers to enter the country legally. Nobody benefits, including responsible contractors, when undocumented workers are taken advantage of by unscrupulous operators.

AN INDUSTRY COMMITTED TO SAFETY

Nothing is more important to the construction industry than the safety of its workforce. Every day thousands of dedicated construction safety professionals work hard to make sure every worker heads home to their family at the end of the day in Tennessee. As a result of their hard work and the dedication of Tennessee contractors and crafts people, the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics data indicates that:
