Construction HR & Training Professionals Gear Up for Industry Conference

Each October, construction industry professionals in HR, training and workforce development gear up for the industry’s premier learning and networking event, AGC’s Construction HR & Training Professionals Conference, and this year is no different.  The 2014 event will be held Oct. 15-17 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel in Phoenix, Ariz.  For more information or to register, visit www.agc.org/CHRTPC. This year’s conference will kick-off on the afternoon of Oct. 15 with a pre-conference Federal Construction HR Workshop.  Designed to help staff responsible for compliance on federal and federally assisted projects, the workshop provides practical information and best-practice advice from experts and peers experienced in the area.  Sessions for this year include “Building a 5-Star Ethics and Compliance Program in Construction”, “Setting a New Industry Standard of Davis-Bacon Act Compliance”, and “Preparing for the Onslaught of OFCCP Regulations.” During the Conference, sessions for training professionals will cover the most cutting-edge techniques in training and development currently in use and envisioned for the future of the industry while the HR-related sessions will help HR professionals in the industry remain up to date and compliant with employment laws and best practices.  Some sessions this year for training professionals include “Making Online Delivery an Essential Part of Your Training Program”, “Using Scenario-Based Training to Make Learning Stick” and “Linking Training to Business Performance.”  For HR professionals in the industry, some sessions include “The U.S. Economy’s Effect on Construction Work and Wages”, “The Role of Incentive Compensation Programs in Construction”, and “Regulatory Issues and Other Emerging Matters Facing Construction Employers.” Some sessions will interest both HR and training professionals alike, such as “Optimizing Your Personal Demeanor & Delivery for High Impact Presentations”, “So Your Initiative Didn’t Stick… Try Change Management”, and “Aligning HRM and HRD Disciplines to Build a Sustainable Talent Pipeline.” Not to be missed this year are the Conference’s two anchor sessions.  In a keynote address on the first day of the Conference, doctor and motivational speaker Dr. Peter Percuoco will discuss easy to implement strategies HR and training professionals may use to regain control and triumph over the damaging effects of stress for themselves and their workers.  And the Conference will close with a 90-minute, interactive discussion, led by members of AGC’s Industry Recruiting Task Force, on the construction industry’s looming workforce shortage and best practices to implement, now, that will keep your company operating at full capacity. For those seeking to earn professional credentials at the event, Conference attendees who hold a PHR, SPHR or GPHR certification and attend the entire conference and workshop will earn 12 general recertification credits through the HR Certification Institute.  In addition, three sessions have been pre-approved for Strategic Management (Business) credits towards SPHR recertification.  For complete session descriptions, schedule, registration, and hotel information, visit the AGC website.
