AGC Foundation Scholarships Help Students Achieve Dreams

“ Aside from pursuing my Bachelor’s degree (in Construction Management), I am also working on three minors in Spanish, architecture and business administration.  I stay heavily involved with the CM program and strive to give back to the program by participating on one of the school’s ASC competition teams as well as taking leadership roles in the extra-curricular student groups.  I currently serve as president of the Associated Students of Construction Management and as vice president of our DBIA student chapter.  I plan to graduate in the spring of 2013 and hope to begin work in commercial construction and eventually reach my goal of project management.  Thanks to you, I am now one step closer to achieving my dreams.” This excerpt from Washington State University’s Nicole Johnson is taken from a thank you note to the AGC Education and Research Foundation Board of Directors.  Nicole is not alone.  Of the 111 students awarded scholarships in 2012, the vast majority are active in their AGC student chapters, work construction in the summer and during the school year, and give back to their communities.  Many are also supporting families. And  40 years of success in funding over 3,000 undergraduate and graduate scholarships – over $8 million – has led the foundation to two exciting new initiatives that will have an impact on an even greater number of young constructors!  Over the past two years, the foundation has placed faculty with AGC contractors through its new faculty internship program and has asked AGC contractors to team with university faculty to create a library of industry case studies for use in the university classroom and industry training programs. Both of these initiatives will expand in 2013 through a partnership with the Associated Schools of Construction. Read more in your current issue of Constructor magazine.
