AGC-Organized Tallahassee Media Event Highlights Need for Federal Transportation Legislation

AGC held a May 25 media event in Tallahassee, Fla., in coordination with member firm Vulcan Materials Co., to announce how the area lost another 300 construction jobs between April 2011 and April 2012, while employment levels throughout Florida dropped to their lowest levels since 1990. Out of Florida’s 22 metro areas and divisions, only the West Palm Beach-Boca Raton-Boynton Beach area added construction jobs. Meanwhile, Tallahassee ranked 239 out of 337 metro areas in terms of the percentage of construction jobs lost between April 2011 and April 2012.  Association officials noted that Tallahassee and many other areas in Florida continue to experience some of the nation’s most severe construction job losses even as Congress is years late in passing legislation to fund vital highway, bridge and other infrastructure repairs. The news was covered by the Tallahassee Democrat,  Orlando Sentinel, Capitol News Network, the local NPR station, among others.
