EPA Releases Construction Fleet Inventory Guide

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has just released a Construction Fleet Inventory Guide designed to help fleet owners/operators build an accurate inventory of construction equipment and vehicles. Having this fleet inventory is an essential component for many clean diesel grant applications. EPA's comprehensive 118-page guide contains photos and specific directions for how to locate vehicle and engine information such as make, model, model year, horsepower and more. With an increased focus on air quality in this country, there are more and more incentive programs available to diesel fleet owners to encourage them to replace older equipment with newer ones, to rebuild old engines, or to retrofit current engines with new technologies that help lower emissions. However, in order to apply for funding from many of these programs, you must collect detailed information on your current equipment and/or vehicle(s). Gathering all of the necessary information for program application can prove daunting, as the information requested is not always readily available. EPA's new guide is designed to help diesel fleet owners/operators collect the information they need to create an accurate inventory of their equipment. The guide is online at http://www.epa.gov/cleandiesel/documents/420b10025.pdf. Related Resources AGC has worked closely with U.S. EPA to develop reports and recommendations on positive incentives for diesel retrofit in the construction industry, such as Cleaner Diesels: Low Cost Ways to Reduce Diesel Emissions from Construction Equipment (March 2007) and Emission Reduction Incentives for Off-Road Diesel Equipment Used in the Port and Construction Sectors (May 2005).  For more information, contact Leah Pilconis at pilconisl@agc.org.
