EPA Invites AGC to Play a Key Role in Clean Diesel 10 - National Clean Diesel Campaign Conference

Recognizing AGC's influence on "clean diesel" initiatives that affect the construction industry, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) invited AGC to help plan and moderate the "Non-road Track" at Clean Diesel 10, a significant event to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of EPA's National Clean Diesel Campaign (NCDC). AGC is currently serving on the NCDC Clean Diesel 10 Event - VIP Steering Committee and looks forward to helping EPA plan a successful conference.  AGC has been actively involved in EPA's Nation Clean Diesel Campaign since its inception in 2000, and today, AGC continues to collaborate with EPA to provide the association's 95 Chapters and nearly 33,000 members with the information they need to make the voluntary program work (click here to see related story in this Observer).  AGC has partnered with "Clean Construction USA," a component of EPA's NCDC, to look at ways to reduce off-road diesel emissions and to assess "retrofit" incentives that would appeal to the construction industry. To this end, AGC continues to urge Congress to provide financial and technical assistance to the many equipment owners who share our interest in finding both fair and effective ways to reduce emissions from existing fleets of off-road diesel equipment.  Clean Diesel 10 is October 19-20, 2010, at the Walter E. Washington convention center in Washington, D.C.  Industry leaders from across the country; key members of Congress; local, regional, state and federal government policymakers; air directors; clean diesel project leaders; and environmental organizations will come together to recognize specific projects and technologies that have improved air quality and discuss what is on the horizon for new clean air technologies, strategies and practices.  At the conference, EPA hopes to gather feedback from stakeholders on emerging challenges and build excitement and support for program's future.  More information and registration is online at www.cleandiesel10.com. Regional Clean Diesel Collaboratives Seek AGC Chapter, Member Participation "Clean Diesel Collaboratives" have formed throughout the nation to carry out the mission of EPA's NCDC on a regional basis.  These collaboratives are making decisions about how best to reduce emissions from engines in construction equipment. AGC Chapter and member representation on regional collaboratives is vital because environmental groups are aggressively advocating diesel retrofit mandates and an ever increasing number of entities are using contract language to require retrofit in public construction contracts.  Industry participation would help guide the focus and direction of how a region decides to tackle its "clean air" issues.
