WISCONSIN-BASED FAITH TECHNOLOGIES RAN NATION'S SAFEST CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM IN 2009, CONTRACTORS GROUP SAYS

Faith Technologies, Inc. Wins Construction Safety Excellence Awards Grand Prize as 23 Other Companies Win First Place for Quality Construction Safety Programs

Faith Technologies, Inc. of Menasha, Wisconsin ran 2009's best construction program according to the Associated General Contractors of America. The association, which oversees the Construction Safety Excellence Awards, an annual ranking of construction safety programs, noted that 23 other companies were selected as first-place for the quality of their safety programs.

"There's no better measure of a company's commitment to quality than the strength of their safety program," said Doug Pruitt, the association's past-president who announced this year's winners. "While completing magnificent projects is important, protecting hard working employees is essential in this industry."

Pruitt said Faith Technologies was selected as this year's Grand Prize winner because of its strong commitment to safety. He noted that the company went beyond the traditional approach to safety and health training for its workers. For example, it conducted extensive research into how different generations within the company learned best, and then tailored its safety programs to meet those needs.

In addition to Faith Technologies, the following companies received first place for their safety programs: Healy Tibbitts Builders of Aiea, Hawaii; Watts Constructors of Honolulu, Hawaii; Beaver Excavating Company of Canton, Ohio; J.F. White Contracting Company of Framingham, Massachusetts; Langston Construction Company of Piedmont, South Carolina; Opp Construction of Grand Forks, North Dakota; J.R. Filanc Construction Company of Escondido, California; Herzog Contracting Corp. of St. Joseph, Missouri; Acme Constructors & Erectors of St. Louis, Missouri; Sicklesteel Cranes Inc. of Mount Vernon, Washington; Amason & Associates of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Brookstone, L.P. of Houston, Texas; Haselden Construction of Centennial, Colorado; Tellepsen of Houston, Texas; Walbridge of Detroit, Michigan; MWH Constructors Inc. of Broomfield, Colorado; Marathon Construction Corporation of Lakeside, California; Midwest Mechanical Contractors Inc. of Kansas City, Missouri; Buffalo Gap Instrumentation & Electrical Co., Inc. of Buffalo Gap, Texas; R.J. Grondin and Sons of Gorham, Maine; Great Lakes Construction Co. of Hickey, Ohio; and Sundt Construction, Inc. of Tempe, Arizona.

Pruitt noted that there are multiple winners because the awards are distributed for a number of categories, based on the size of the company, the amount of work performed and the type of work performed. He added that the Construction Safety Excellence Award winners are selected by a panel of five independent safety professionals within the government, corporate and insurance industries. Final judging for the awards program took place during last week's annual convention for the contractors' association.

In addition to the first place winners, the following companies won second place: Slayden Construction Group, Inc. of Stayton, Oregon; Morsey Constructors, LLC of Calvet City, Kentucky; CDM Constructors Inc. of Rancho Cucamonga, California; SJ&L General Contractors of Mobile, Alabama; BRB Contractors Inc. of Topeka, Kansas; Performance Contracting Inc. of Grandview, Missouri; Cox Construction Co. of Vista, California; Vanguard Contractors of Paducah, Kentucky; RQ Construction Inc. of Carlsbad, California; GE Johnson Construction Company, Inc. of Colorado Springs, Colorado; The Flintco Companies, Inc. of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Perini Management Services of Framingham, Massachusetts; Dynalectric of San Diego, California; Herlihy Mid-Continent Compnay of Romeoville, Illinois; and Flatiron Construction of San Marcos, California.
