AGC Releases Building to LEED®-NC Update

Supplement provides update on LEED v3 and its impact on construction practices In April 2009, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) released an update to its LEED® rating system, LEED v3. Among the updates to its ratings system, LEED 2009, LEED v3 included changes to LEED Online, a new building certification processes and new professional certifications. AGC's newly released supplement includes information on LEED v3 and its overall impact on construction practices. The supplement is designed to augment AGC's Building to LEED for New Construction: Overview and the Impact on Construction Practices program, providing an essential comparison of LEED v2.2. and v3 and what contractors need to know to navigate the new system. According to McGraw Hill Construction, the green building market is likely to more than double from the $36-49 billion currently to $96-140 billion by 2013 (Green Outlook 2009: Trends Driving Change). As the interest and demand for green buildings increases, it will become imperative that contractors educate themselves on green building practices and the LEED rating system. Building to LEED-NC provides an in-depth look at a contractor's role on a LEED project, focusing on the information contractors need most to effectively and efficiently construct green buildings. Available to contractors as a reference guidebook, as well as delivered as a one-day course by AGC Chapters nationwide Building to LEED-NC details the way LEED accreditation affects:
  • Estimating decisions and project cost
  • Scheduling activities, durations and logic
  • Project administration and documentation
  • Contracts and agreements
  • Field operations and subcontractor management
The supplementary material is included with both the Building to LEED-NC Participant's Manual and in the course's Instructor's Guide (which also includes an updated PowerPoint presentation). Both the Participant's Manual and the Instructor's Guide are available for purchased from the AGC Bookstore. Contact curriculum@agc.org or visit www.agc.org/Green for more information!
