The AGC IT Steering Committee seeks presenters to lead discussions on the following 3 topics:
Topic choice #1: 3D Printing in the Construction Industry
The use of 3D printing in industry and manufacturing is becoming more commonplace. With the benefits of speed, accuracy, reduced labor costs, reduced waste, reduced health and safety risks, and being environmentally friendly, 3D printing in construction is set to take off. 3D printing in a construction application can include the creation of complex components or entire structures.
- Are you using 3D printing for any part of your project?
- If so, how and why are you using it?
- Is it being used to fulfill a new set of requirements?
- Is it replacing the work of a person?
- Is it cost effective?
- Will you be using 3D printing on future projects?
If you are using 3D printing, we’d like to hear about it and we’d bet that others would as well. Specifically, we’d like to know: what hardware/software you’re using, how and why you’re using 3D printing, costs, barriers to usage, did the usage of the solution meet your expectations, will you use it on future projects, did you learn anything that can be applied to your next usage?
Topic choice #2: Update on UAVs (Drones) and Best Practices To Know
It seems as if unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), aka, drones, are all over the news lately. From crashes on the White House lawn, to the shooting down of a nosy neighbor’s drone, to near misses at airports, the FAA is set to issue new regulations regarding the use and registration of drones in the public airspace.
- How are you currently using drones on your construction project sites?
- Any best practices to share?
- Are you concerned about the FAA’s new regulations?
- What will these new regulations entail?
- How will the new regulations affect the way you use drones on your construction site?
- Any future projections on our industry and the usage of drones?
If you are using drones, we invite you to share your experience. Specifically, we’d like to know: what hardware/software you’re using, how and why you’re using drones, best practices related to your current usage of drones, concerns about the new forthcoming FAA regulations, how the proposed regulations could affect the way you use drones.
Topic choice #3: Use Cases for BIM and Safety on Project Sites
We all know that Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a great tool for designing a building or other complex structure. Did you ever think to use BIM for preplanning safety on a project site? Could your safety staff meet with your BIM detailer to look for potential hazards such as areas that need handrails, deep excavations and crane coordination issues? By incorporating safety preplanning into the model the entire team can see the hazards and address them before they become a problem.
- Are you using BIM as a part of your safety program on project sites?
- If so, how and why are you using it?
- Is it being used to fulfill a new set of requirements?
- Is it cost effective?
- Will you be using BIM as a part of your safety program on future projects?
If you are using BIM for safety preplanning, we invite you to share your experience. Specifically, we’d like to know: how and why you’re using BIM, best practices related to your current usage of BIM for safety and whether or not your usage of BIM has made your project site safer.
Other Information
The Steering committee will select a speaker for each of these topics. The primary speaker must be an AGC member and present the details on one of these topics at the Technology Showcase feature at the AGC Convention. Each representative will receive a complimentary registration to the Convention.
