Member Highlight: Jeff Forbes, Chair of AIA-AGC Joint Committee

Jeff Forbes is the Dallas Regional Director for The Beck Group’s Dallas office. Throughout his 40-year tenure at Beck, his technical knowledge, practical approach, and helpful nature have been refined and now play a key role as he oversees all construction and architectural operations for the Dallas region.

Jeff is a caring person with a passion for giving back and he serves on various boards and committees for TEXO, the construction association of North and East Texas and AGC of America. He contributes his time to CityLab Foundation Board, Watermark Church, Dallas AIA Architecture and Design Foundation, co-chair for the National AIA-AGC Joint Committee, serves on the AGC Climate Change Task Force and National Board of Governors for AGC of America. Brief history – AIA/AGC Joint Committee is both AIA’s and AGC of America’s longest running committee.

  • Why did you get involved with AIA/AGC Joint Committee?

Collaboration is one of the most important aspects for delivering design and construction excellence. In our built environment understanding the “why” of collaboration is extremely important and involvement on the committee has helped illuminate best practices. Engagement from strategic surveys have helped point out ways to partner closer on our joint issues.

  • What benefits have you experienced being involved with AIA/AGC Joint Committee?

Being at the forefront of shaping what collaboration should and could look like between our two organizations (design and construction) has delivered insightful benefits. To be successful, we need to approach working better together and not as adversaries. Through my time on the committee, I have been able to gain an understanding for the “why” behind design intent while articulating the importance of responses and schedule.

Through involvement you quickly are allowed to peek behind the curtain as to what makes our organizations tick and what collaboration truly is.

  • What project are you currently working on that you are most excited about?
    • Old Parkland East Campus
    • Reunion Tower
      • Involving technology
      • Redoing an iconic project

The Beck Group is currently putting the final touches on Austin Street Shelter which is a homeless shelter for people in need. We are both the architect and contractor.
