Cutoff for hotel reservations is Tuesday, September 17, 2019!

Each October, construction industry professionals in HR, training and workforce development gear up for the industry’s premier learning and networking event, AGC’s Construction HR & Training Professionals Conference, and this year is no different.  The 2019 event will be held Oct. 9-11 at The Westin Chicago River North, in Chicago, IL.  For more information or to register, visit here.

This year’s Conference will kick-off on the afternoon of Oct. 9 with a pre-conference Strategic Management Workshop.  This half-day workshop will consist of two sessions to help participants understand their firm’s top business challenges in order to align their department and efforts with the company’s strategic corporate goals. In the first session Chris Williams and Christian Moreno from Lockton Dunning will take participants on a deep dive into the design, rollout and communication of tailored Total Rewards strategic initiatives that drive organizational change and human capital retention. Through an open-style presentation format with interactive contractor specific case studies, attendees will learn how to build executive/management consensus and buy-in. The second session, helmed by John C. Fox, Esq., from Fox, Wang & Morgan P.C., will provide an interactive panel discussion on the movement of HR over time and the need to align HR and the C-Suite moving forward. Further mini-discussions will follow identifying where the misalignments are and how to channel a path towards alignment. Attendees will be welcomed to participate and provide their unique points of view and ultimately culminate in valuable practical takeaways identifying misalignments and potential solutions.

During the Conference, sessions for training professionals will cover the most cutting-edge techniques in training and development currently in use and envisioned for the future of the industry while the HR-related sessions will help HR professionals in the industry remain up to date and compliant with employment laws and best practices.  Some sessions this year for training and workforce development professionals include “Labor & Employment Law Update”, “HRIS and LMS Implementation Lessons Learned”, “Activity Based Learning”, “Worker Availability: Relief in Sight or Signs of More Misery Ahead?”, “Brain Friendly Leadership”, “Maintaining Effective Pay Programs”, “HR Best Practices to Avoid Lawsuits”, “Identifying, Developing and Retaining Key Leaders”, and “ICE Audits/Raids of Employers”.

Not to be missed this year are the Conference’s four anchor sessions.  During the opening session of the conference, brand builder, “motivational speecher” and trainer, word girl and business coach Liz Goodgold will kick off the conference with her session “The Art of Networking Inside Your Company; 6 Secrets to Boosting Camaraderie, Cooperation, and a Cohesive Team.”  Sydne Jacques, an engineer turned CEO and professional speaker, will close the first day of the conference with the session “Creating Cultures by Design, Not Default – A Fun Way to Boost Profitability.” On the final day of the conference, Kathleen Freitas from BOND Brothers, Inc. and Brendan Carter from AGC MA will present a case study on their experience and development of guidance for substance use disorders in the construction industry. And to close out the conference, Wendy Bradley from Civil Constructors, LLC on how they and other Middle Tennessee highway construction contractors partnered with TN Department of Transportation and TN Department of Corrections to create a program to assist ex-offenders re-entering the workforce and simultaneously help impact the construction workforce shortage.

General and specialty contractor staff, AGC chapter staff, and other professionals involved in workforce and professional development, education, human resources and training are invited to attend. For those seeking to earn professional credentials at the event, Conference attendees who hold a PHR, SPHR or GPHR certification and attend the entire conference and workshop will earn credits through the HR Certification Institute.  Sessions may also qualify for SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification.
