Registration Open for Construction HR and Training Professionals Conference

Registration is now open for AGC’s 2013 Construction HR and Training Professionals Conference, to be held Oct. 16-17 at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago. The conference will provide two days of unique opportunities for HR, training and workforce development professionals in the construction industry. The conference will open with a presentation by DPR Construction - Infusing People Skills in a Traditionally Technical Environment. Representatives from DPR will share details of how they created an extensive and dynamic developmental skills training program that includes conflict mediation, career development, and coaching skills. The speakers will share how the need for the program was identified, the timeline of their roll-out, and many lessons learned along the way. You’ll also hear about learner reactions at DPR and the data they’ve used to shape their path forward. Other plenary sessions include a presentation on high-potential leadership development and the nation’s first look at FMI’s 2013 U.S. Construction Industry Talent Development Report, which surveys leading construction firms on their investment in training, as well as best practices for finding and retaining the best talent, hot trends in training, succession planning, measuring training results, using psychological and other assessments, and more. Throughout both days, there will be breakout sessions tailored specifically for either HR or training professionals. Some of the HR-oriented sessions include: developing market-based pay programs; managing absences for employees with long-term illnesses; OFCCP’s new outlook on compensation analysis; the Affordable Care Act’s effects on multiemployer plans, seasonal workers & Davis-Bacon; and encouraging employee participation in the company’s contributory retirement plan. The training sessions will include a case study from KBR on how it made the connections to recruit veterans; an NCCER update on craft training, Build Your Future and other Initiatives; and a game-based technique to train supervisors to be an extension of HR. There will be additional sessions that will be of interest to all attendees, whether an HR or Training professional, plus numerous networking opportunities. New this year is a special pre-conference HR & Training Strategic Management Workshop, to be held from Noon to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15. This half-day workshop will include three sessions that will help participants embed best practices in human resources and training within their own company’s culture and strategic plan. Session topics include: identifying what the CEO needs from HR & training, building a high-performance culture and aligning performance evaluations with the company’s strategy. All conference events will take place at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago, located at the gateway to the famed Magnificent Mile, next to an array of business, shopping and entertainment attractions.
