Vote Scheduled for Today on Highway Trust Fund, Contact with Republican House Members Urgent

The House Republican Conference will meet today at 4:00 p.m. to consider a rules package that will govern how issues can be addressed in the 112th Congress. Among the proposed rules is a repeal of the guaranteed funding requirement for annual federal highway investment and the House point of order that enforces the guarantee. These guaranteed investment levels are based on user fee revenue flowing into the Highway Trust Fund. AGC is working in support of an amendment to be offered by Rep. Steven LaTourette (R-Ohio). The Amendment is a compromise that will retain some of the programs guarantees while giving the GOP a chance to cut funding if they can muster a majority of votes to do it on the House Floor. The GOP leadership has refused to include the LaTourette Amendment as a compromise, and therefore a vote will be necessary. Please continue to contact House Republicans and urge them to support the LaTourette amendment and urge them to convince their leadership to support the LaTourette amendment.
