Project Team Training: A Case Study of a Unique Training Concept

Brad L. Benhart, Professor of Building Construction Management, Purdue University

This presentation will provide an overview of the development, execution and measurement of a unique team training program used at a large, Midwestern contractor, which had always conducted training by job title. Learn how the company determined that a team approach – including both field and office – staff was crucial to improving communication and project scheduling. Attendees will also learn how the team concept was implemented, measured and improved over the course of time.

By attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the value of “team” training versus “title” or “position” training;
  • Create a step–by–step process to develop a team training program;
  • Identify the specific traits that are unique to each position on the team and incorporate each into a team training approach; and
  • Set goals for a training program that are common for the entire project team.
