Project Manager Development Program

An AGC Construction Learning Tool for the Emerging Project Manager

AGC is thrilled to launch the new Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) for early-career project managers or those looking to move into such a role. The five-course program covers the essentials of project management and provides a solid foundation for long-term career development. The curriculum is offered at many of AGC's 96 chapters or can be brought in-house to construction firms and educational institutions in order to teach a new generation of project managers the essential skills to ensure project success.

The PMDP is a set of five highly interactive modules that include discussions, class activities and presentations, and provide participants the skills essential to their careers as project managers.

Modules

Each module features an instructor guide (including guide sheets for activities and assignments, PowerPoint presentations, and "Tips from the Top" videos) and a participant manual. The five modules include:

Duration

Each module is designed for 16 hours of instruction, with the ability to block the material into two-hour, four-hour, or eight-hour sessions in order to accommodate a variety of course structures.

Cost

The cost of the instructor guide and participant manual is the same:

  • AGC members, $125 per manual
  • Non-members, $155 per manual.

Course Attendees

PMDP participants are likely to have various titles depending on the kind of work they perform, the geographical location of their projects, and the size of their company. They may have titles such as assistant project manager, project manager, field engineer, project engineer, project administrator, etc. They may have experience as estimators, field personnel, project assistants, or office managers, and they may work in the heavy and highway sector, the commercial building sector, or in residential construction. They will most likely be early in their careers, have some post-high-school education, and less than two years of project-related experience.

Locations

The PMDP curriculum is delivered at AGC chapters, individual construction firms, educational institutions and others areas. A nationwide calendar is available to easily locate training facilities and course schedules.

e-Forum

The PMDP e-Forum is an electronic, email tool designed for instructors and administrators of the curriculum, to communicate on issues that enhance the PMDP classroom. Join the e-Forum today. AGC e-Forum participation is subject to terms of use.
