Specifying Recycled Industrial Materials in the Contract
I would like to use recycled industrial materials in my project but their use is not specified in the contract. What language can I suggest to ensure that industrial materials will be used?
Language can be added to contracts to specify using industrial materials instead of virgin products. Work with the owner or developer in adding this language, as necessary, so that industrial materials can be used.

- Federal Construction Guide for Specifiers
Part of the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG), this guide provides sample specification language for building construction, renovation, and demolition.
- Designing With Vision: Technical Manual for Material Choices in Sustainable Construction
Produced by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, this guide addresses why you should choose sustainable design. Designing with Vision includes information on choosing, locating and purchasing recycled-content building products. It also provides sample contract language and recycled-content building product specifications. Designing with Vision offers green building case studies. In addition, it provides strategies for reusing and reducing construction materials and managing job site waste. See pages 27-32; includes good introductory language, examples, and references to other materials.
