Implementing Career Readiness Assessments & Certificates

Jennifer Horne–Frazier, Director, ACT

The idea of career readiness certificates has become popular nationwide as a system for certifying the basic skills necessary for success in typical jobs. AGC of America’s craft training partner, the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), has endorsed the ACT National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), which assesses an individual’s core employability skills in reading, math, and locating information. Once an employer knows an applicant’s skill levels, they can determine whether they are qualified to be an employee. This increases the likelihood that they will be successful in a particular job. And for current employees, it identifies the skills needed for promotions and greater productivity.

By attending this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify ways to use the NCRC to reduce hiring expenses and attrition;
  • Recognize methods to use the NCRC in screening, hiring, promoting and targeting employee training and development; and
  • Understand the levels of an NCRC and how those levels equate to jobs in the construction industry.
