Connecting to the Workforce Investment System

Helen Parker, Regional Administrator, U.S. Department of Labor/Employment & Training Administration

The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment & Training Administration administers federal government job training and worker dislocation programs, federal grants to states for public employment service programs, and unemployment insurance benefits. These services are primarily provided through state and local workforce development systems. But how does the construction industry connect to this resource and influence who is encouraged to enter the construction industry and how they are trained?

By attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Learn how to connect to their local workforce investment board;
  • Understand the resources available to employers seeking new workers; and
  • Identify areas where they might partner with other groups to apply for ETA grants.
