Forming a Statewide Recruiting & Training Partnership

Alaska Construction Education Foundation

The construction industry nationwide is expecting shortages as older workers retire and fewer young people seek jobs in the industry. The Alaska Construction Academy (AkCA) was formed to recruit, train, and employ entry-level workers into construction jobs. The AkCA program includes performance measures defined by the AkCA Advisory Board. The measures include evidence of recruiting, training, and employing youth and adults into construction-related jobs. The AkCA received a Workforce Development Award from the Construction Users Roundtable in 2008 for its efforts. Come learn how they did it and how you can implement a similar industry-state agency partnership in your state.

By attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the key elements to a statewide partnership;
  • Define performance measures related to a recruiting and training partnership; and
  • Locate possible sources of revenue for such a partnership.
