Communicating in Challenging Situations

Training and HR professionals are routinely asked to communicate in challenging situations ? speaking before groups, sharing bad news, communicating on sensitive issues, and dealing with difficult personalities ? to name a few. This interactive session will provide participants with techniques for effectively communicating, including gaining and holding favorable attention, maintaining control, getting involvement and buy-in, and handling questions.

Participants of AGC's Education and HR Practices e-forums will be surveyed in advance to identify communication challenges facing AGC training and HR professionals. This session will be targeted to address the group's top communication challenges.

• Identify skills for clearly communicating in challenging situations;
• Explain how non-verbal behavior can be used effectively in a challenging conversation; and
• Discuss effective methods for communicating in challenging situations.
