Green Construction Education Program

GCEP Logo

More and more project owners are seeking LEED® certification for their buildings. AGC of America prepared the full-day course, Building to LEED for New Construction, to provide an overview of the LEED® for New Construction rating system with a focus on the means and methods of construction. Attendees will gain a more complete understanding of their role on a LEED® project - helping them remain competitive in an increasingly green market.

AGC has published a supplement to the Building to LEED course, updating the material to the new LEED v3 and providing an essential comparison of LEED v2.2. and v3 and what contractors need to know to navigate the new system.

Attendees will learn about all of the prerequisites and credits within the six LEED® categories. Attendees will also learn which credits have major, moderate, or some impact on construction practices. The course details the ways those credits will affect:

  • Estimating decisions and project cost,
  • Scheduling activities, durations and logic,
  • Project administration and documentation,
  • Contracts and agreements
  • Field operations and subcontractor management.

AGC of America based the course materials on research completed by the Construction Management Program at Michigan State University and funded by the AGC Education and Research Foundation.

USGBC LogoThe U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) developed Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building rating systems for different applications. AGC of America's course materials focus on LEED® for New Construction v3. AGC of America is a registered USGBC Education Provider. This course curriculum has been reviewed for instructional design and subject matter and approved by the USGBC.

Select courses can be approved for 7.5 Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) Continuing Education Hours. These hours help to fulfill the credentialing maintenance hours required of LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) and Green Associates (GA).

Intended Audience

This course will benefit individuals in the construction industry (general contractors, construction managers, and higher-tier subcontractors) currently working on or planning to work on LEED® projects. This course is especially helpful for those preparing to use the rating system for the first time.

Course Format

This course relies on a highly participatory learning environment including classroom presentations, in-class exercises, and instructor-led discussions. AGC chooses instructors with both LEED® and construction experience.
