EJCDC Background:
The Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee (EJCDC) has existed since 1975 to produce and promote the use of quality administrative documents for constructed facilities involving professional engineering services. The EJCDC is a joint venture of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), the National Society of Professional Engineers/Professional Engineers in Private Practice (NSPE/PEPP), the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), and the American Society of Civil Engineers – Construction Institute (ASCE–CI). The EJCDC represents a major portion of the professional groups engaged in the practice of providing engineering and construction services for the constructed project.
In support of its mission, EJCDC prepares and publishes the following:
- Standard forms of agreement for professional engineering services
- Standard contract documents and related forms for various types of construction projects
- Guidelines and commentaries on the use of EJCDC documents and matters related to the roles and responsibilities of the Owner, Engineer, Contractor, and other parties involved in design and construction
Through EJCDC's publications and seminars, the EJCDC educates members of the design profession, owners, contractors, attorneys, and the interested public in the importance of understanding proper roles and responsibilities of the contracting parties, as well as the wording and coordination of engineering, bidding, construction, and other project documents. EJCDC coordinates its activities with other organizations and government agencies seeking to standardize the concepts and wording of professional society and industry documents when appropriate.
