Funding

- Subsidy and administrative costs of projects eligible for federal credit assistance under chapter 6 of title 23, United States Code ($200 million)
Deadlines
- Funds remain available until September 30, 2011
- Criteria on which to base the competition for any grants awarded must be published by the Secretary no later than 90 days after enactment
- Applications for grants due no later than 180 days after the aforementioned publication
- Announcement of grants awarded no later than 1 year after enactment
Additional Information
- Funds distributed as discretionary grants to be awarded to State and local governments or transit agencies on a competitive basis for projects that will have a significant impact on the Nation, a metropolitan area, or a region
- The Secretary shall take such measures so as to ensure an equitable geographic distribution of funds and an appropriate balance in addressing the needs of urban and rural communities
- Grants must be between $20 million and $300 million in size (minimum can be waived to fund significant projects in smaller cities, regions, or States)
- No more than 20% of the funds can go to any single state
- State matching requirements are waived for these funds
- Priority given to projects that are projected for completion within a 3 year timeframe and to projects that require a contribution of Federal funds to complete an overall financing package
