To be the advocate and information resource for specialty contractors within the construction industry.
"AGC of America is the voice of the construction industry and the association of choice for more than 13,000 specialty contractor firms. The Specialty Contractors Council (SCC) is the advocate for specialty contractors from all occupational sectors of the industry, and from all regions throughout country. Most notably, the Council works with prime contractor members to find solutions to issues that affect the entire construction community. The AGC of America SCC welcomes specialty contractors who wish to serve on the SCC and seeks to aid development of Chapter SCCs across the country. Furthermore, the SCC encourages all members of the association to become more active in their local AGC Chapter and with AGC of America."
Jorge J. Fuentes
Chair, AGC of America Specialty Contractors Council
2011-2013
AGC of America strives to be the organization of choice for those associated with the construction industry, and its membership includes general contractors, specialty contractors, and suppliers and service providers. AGC of America is composed of approximately 33,000 member firms; more than 13,000 of these firms are specialty contractors. The Specialty Contractors Council (SCC) provides AGC specialty contractor members a voice in the Association.
In March 1997, the AGC of America Board of Directors approved the formation of the SCC. The Council was created to better serve the needs of the Association's growing ranks of specialty contractor members. The SCC Executive Committee serves on AGC's Board of Directors and its chair serves on the AGC Executive Board - all strengthening the voice that specialty contractors have in AGC. More about the history of the AGC of America SCC can be found here and its Executive Committee here.
As shown in the SCC 2010-2012 Strategic Plan, the SCC seeks to promote best practices and fairness throughout the construction industry through collaboration within AGC, enhanced communication, and industry influence.
Specialty Contractors from AGC Chapters across the country comprise the AGC of America SCC. There are two ways to become an AGC of America SCC member. The most common way is for an individual to be nominated by their Chapter. Every Chapter can nominate one individual to the SCC and an additional individual for every one hundred of their specialty contractor member firms. The SCC Chair can also nominate up to ten specialty contractors to serve on the Council.
Please contact your Chapter and Mike Stark at starkm@agc.org if you are an AGC specialty contractor member who would like to serve on the Council.
